Thoughts on the My Little Pony Toy Fair Releases

Hi everypony! I hope you've all had a great week! For Valerie and I, it was our first full week back to school after two weeks filled with snow days. However, I'm not here to talk about me, I'm here to talk about ponies! Let's get started!

Playskool Ponies 


First up, we have a line of pony toys marketed toward a younger audience, produced by Playskool.

Story Packs

These little ponies will be available in packs of two, with the exception of Cherilee, who will only be available in a pack with the other six. Overall, these are adorable! I don't care that they're for younger girls, VERA WANT. Being sold in two packs is nice too, so you don't HAVE to buy all seven if you don't want to.

Rainbow Dash Friendship Party Bus

The Rainbow Dash figure is adorable! The bus...not so much. Oh well, I might just get the story pack with Rainbow and Applejack.

Musical Celebration Castle

This playset will come with a Pinkie Pie and Starsong figure. Oh Pinkie, why aren't you sold separately! The castle doesn't look to be that great of quality, but again, these are made for younger girls, so I can't really get TOO upset.

Overall thoughts on the Playskool releases: The figures are ADORABLE!!!! The playsets...not so much. However, I don't give two bits that these are for younger girls, I might (read, probably) get the seven pony story pack. The playlets are pretty worthless, but again, these are for younger girls.

Unnamed Super Speedy Cider Squeezy Playset

This MUST come home. No ifs, ands, ors, or buts. The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 is one of my all time favorite episodes, and I absolutely LOVE Flim and Flam! My favorite is Flam, but he's sold in an add on pack with other random Apple family members. That makes Vera mad. Anyway, apple bucking Applejack is adorable! And...it's just an amazing playset. 

Unnamed Sweet Apple Acres Barn Playset

It's so cute! I love Granny Smith, and the accessories look nice quality. The one thing that will keep me from buying this set; the barn is not functional. That's right, it's just a piece of plastic. An impressive, gorgeous looking piece of plastic, but a piece of plastic nonetheless. It looks super show accurate though!

Unnamed Apple Family Reunion Set

Babs Seed is adorable! I already have a Big Mac and Apple Bloom, so I don't have many thoughts on them. However, one concern of this set is that those plates might be permanently attached to Babs and Apple Bloom's heads. Sorta ruins the fun a little bit.

Unnamed Apple Family Add On Pack

If anyone gets this set, would you be willing to let me buy just Flam from you? ;) Seriously though, the only named characters who have had roles in episodes before in the set are Flam and Uncle Apple Strudel. Nothing super remarkable in here. (Except for the obvious!)

Overall thoughts on the blind bag sized releases: ALL THE APPLE FAMILY!!!! I love them all, some much more than others. Honestly though, if I could have all of the sets, I would. However, space and money are an issue. ;)

Brushables

Canterlot Castle Playset

This is going to be a MASSIVE playset that comes with Princess Celestia and Spike. As cool as it may look, it probably is just made of cheap plastic. I have no earthly idea how anyone will find the space to store this, but if you can, all the more power to you.

Rarity's Fashion Boutique Playset

Am I a bad person for saying I love everything about this? It looks like the middle walls might just be cardboard, and several of the accessories look very plasticy, but I love this set!

Playful Ponies Singles

This line includes the mane six plus a new pony, possibly the speculated Mayor Marx of Equalsville? (Post on the season five previews, complete with fangirling, rants, and speculation coming soon!) Other than the ugly ribbons, bracelets, and eye paint, these look like every other mane six brushable ever produced. Except for Mayor Marx. I have an inexplainable love for MLP villains, so she will be coming home. ;)

Water Cuties Wave 2

These brushables are pegasi with large, sparkly wings. The line includes Rainbow Dash, Blossomforth, and Lily Blossom. Eh, they're fairly unremarkable. I don't have many thoughts, good or bad.

Fashion Style Ponies

Coco Pommel

I love Coco! she's one of my favorite supporting characters of all time, so if I had the space for these huge ponies, I would get her!

Rarity

Her outfit's really cute! However, again, I don't have the space for a collection of these.

Rainbow Dash

Again, I love the outfit, but have no reason to add her to my collection.

Pinkie Pie

No offense Pinkie, but you're the worst out of this line. Please understand that you're one of my favorite ponies, but I just really don't like the way you look this way.

Fashion Style Pinkie Pie with RC Scooter

Meh, too little girly. Moving ooo... PINKIE WHERE IS YOUR CUTIE MARK!!!

Glamour Glow Playful Ponies

Princess Cadence

Pretty cute, but she has a bunch of gems stuck to her leg! And her horn is weird. Oh Cadence, what did you let them do to you!

Rarity

Same as above.

Overall thoughts on the brushable line: Some stand out, most are repetitive. Hasbro keeps adding little accessories to make you feel like you aren't buying twenty versions of the same pony, but at the end of the day, you just have twenty Twilight Sparkles hogging shelf space.

MLP Pony Pop

Unnamed Metallic Ponies Line

To those who know me, it's no secret that I don't like the Pony Pop line. This Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are no different. Really, I like them even less then their normal counterparts. What's up with the differently colored, out of proportioned wings? I know that's to make them seem more 'special', but really, they just look even worse than the ordinary wings.

Unnamed Five Inch Ponies Line

This is supposed to be Princess Cadence and Princess Luna. I'll let that sink in. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE PRINCESS CADENCE AND PRINCESS LUNA. Seriously though, they're imposters!

Overall thoughts on the line: I pretty much hate the Pop ponies just as an overall line. The mix and match aspect is cool, but the figures look sloppy, and more often than not, imposters! These new releases are no different.

Equestria Girls

Sporty Style Deluxe Dolls

These are pretty cute! I LOVE the archery equipment, but what if "Friendship Games" are really the Hunger Games in disguise?! Anyway, Fluttershy is the cutest, and I'm intrigued by the new character. And all of the dolls have elbow and knee articulation! 

School Spirit Dolls

I'm not really a fan of the basic dolls that wear outfits made simply for the dolls. I prefer the movie accurate versions of the characters. That being said, Rarity is pretty cute! The new characters, no offense, look like generic OCs pulled from Tumblr. *hides in corner*

Flash Sentry and Twilight Sparkle Two Pack

Cool! It's alternate dimension Twilight! I love everything about her; the glasses, the hair...oh, and Brad's there too. I might do a post later about my hatred of Brad. All things considered, he's a pretty nice looking doll, but I hate the character (and the attempts to pair Twilight off surrounding him), so there is NO WAY in Equestria that he is coming home with me. I'll find a way to get just the alternate dimension Twilight.

Canterlot High Playset

This is another plastic monstrosity that, honestly, looks REALLY cheaply and poorly made. Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again; HOW DOES ANYONE STORE THESE THINGS!!!

Overall thoughts on the Equestria Girls releases: Meh. Just, meh. I don't really LOVE any of the dolls (well, except for archer Fluttershy and alternate dimension Twilight...), and the playset is just...bad. I don't have many optimistic thoughts on this line overall.

Overall thoughts on the Toy Fair My Little Pony releases: I'm cautiously optimistic as a whole. I feel a lot better about the success of these toys than I do the Ever After High line (read my thoughts on those HERE), but I'm not really feeling the Equestria Girls and the Pop ponies. With that being said, I think my pony shelf may have to expand in to pony shelves if this year goes the way I want it to. :D
